Marathon Participants
  • 1.1 TERMS AND ABBREVIATIONS

  • Applicant: A person who has submitted an Idaho Falls Marathon registration application.

  • IFM: Idaho Falls Marathon; the event organizer.

  • Entrant: A person who has submitted an Idaho Falls Marathon registration application and who has been accepted into the race.

  • Invitational Entry: An entry generated by the IFM for a specific event. In the Idaho Falls Marathon, invitational entries, such as those afforded through the IFM Official Charity Program, do not require a qualifying time.

  • Para Athlete: An athlete who possesses a Paralympic-eligible impairment.

  • Participant: A registered and accepted race participant.

2.1 REGISTRATION

  • Applicants must provide true, accurate, current, and complete information on the registration application.

  • Applicants who knowingly submit false information on their registration application will not be accepted into the race and are subject to additional penalties.

  • Acceptance is contingent upon the accuracy of information provided.

  • Should the IFM become aware of falsified information after the applicant was accepted, the registration application will be rejected, and the entrant will be removed from the entry list. In such an instance, the entry fee is not refundable.

2.2 ENTRY FEE

  • Entry fees are established annually by the IFM.

  • Applicants are charged an entry fee upon acceptance.

  • Entry fees are non-refundable, non-transferable, and non-deferrable.

2.3 ALTERNATIVE CATEGORY

  • At this time, Male and Female categories are the only acceptable categories offered by the Idaho Falls Marathon. 

3.1 BIB/PACKET PICK UP

  • Entrants must pick up their IFM issued bib at the Idaho Falls Marathon Expo during posted hours.

  • Entrants must present their race confirmation number at bib/packet pickup

 

3.2 BIB OWNERSHIP

  • Bib numbers are transferable on a case by case basis, if not done prior to bib/packet or race day

  • Participants must wear their assigned bib number on the front of their outermost garment throughout the race.

 

4.1 TIMING

  • The IFM utilizes a transponder timing system for accurate and timely race results.

  • Participants must wear the timing device as instructed to ensure accurate timing and results.

  • Official timing ceases seven hours after marathon start time.

 

5.1 PROHIBITED ITEMS

  • Items that are prohibited on the race course include, Alternative forms of conveyance. (Bicycles/E-Bikes, Roller Blades, skateboards, unauthorized vehicles), and any other items deemed inappropriate or unsafe by race officials.

  • The use of personal music devices is discouraged for safety reasons.

    • Alternative forms of conveyance. (Bicycles/E-Bikes, Roller Blades, unauthorized vehicles, 

5.2 NON-RACE PARTICIPANTS

  • Non-registered participants, unauthorized vehicles, bicycles, and animals are not allowed on the course.

  • Spectators are welcome along the race course but must remain outside of the marked race boundaries.

 

5.3 PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY AND CONSENT TO MEDICAL TREATMENT

  • Participation in the Idaho Falls Marathon is a serious athletic endeavor. Participants must exercise personal responsibility related to their health and participation in this strenuous event.

  • By submitting a registration application, all applicants must agree and accept the Participant’s Agreement, Waiver, Release, and Acknowledgement of the Idaho Falls Marathon.

  • In the event of an emergency, participants grant permission to officials of the IFM to provide onsite medical treatment and if needed transport to a hospital emergency room for medical or surgical treatment.

  • Participants are financially responsible for all costs incurred as a result of training for and participating in the Idaho Falls Marathon, including but not limited to medical transport, hospital stays, physician services, and pharmaceutical goods.

  • Participants authorize the IFM to provide their contact information to any medical service provider seeking payment for services rendered.

 

5.4 CODE OF CONDUCT

  • Participants must abide by the Abbott World Marathon Majors Code of Conduct.

  • Participants must follow the directions of race officials, bike spotters, city officials, and course marshals at all times.

  • Participants must conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner, demonstrate respect to others, and refrain from using profane language.

  • Participants must not harass or inflict physical harm on any other participant, volunteer, staff, vendor, or spectator.

  • Participants must use a public or portable toilet and must not relieve themselves on private or public property. Participants who violate this rule are subject to legal action based on trespassing and/or indecent exposure laws and ordinances in addition to penalties imposed by the IFM.

  • Participants must not harass, cyberstalk, or otherwise cause emotional distress on any other participant, volunteer, staff, vendor, spectator, followers, and subscribers to IFM social media and digital properties including social media accounts, websites, emails, newsletters, and other IFM digital properties.

6.1 AWARDS AND PODIUM PLACING

  • Awards and prizes are given to top finishers in allowed categories.

  • Specific details regarding prizes and awards are communicated to participants prior to the event.

  • Participants competing or intending to place on the podium (top 3 in their category) are required to utilize only the official Idaho Falls Marathon aid stations. Use of aid or supplies from spectators is strictly prohibited for podium finishing athletes.

7 PARA ATHLETES

  • The IFM supports the participation of Para athletes and provides various accommodations.


7.1 RULE VIOLATIONS

  • The IFM reserves the right and has the sole discretion to determine and impose any penalty deemed appropriate should an applicant or participant violate any rule or policy herein including any appendix or addendum.

  • Applicants or participants who commit a rule violation, whether explicitly observed by race officials or that become known to the IFM by some other means are subject to penalties at the IFM’s discretion.

  • Penalties imposed by the IFM may include, but are not limited to:

    • Official warning in writing detailing consequence of a repeat offense

    • Rejection of the applicant’s registration application and removal from the race entry list

    • Disqualification from and removal from official race results

    • A period of ineligibility from IFM events

    • A lifetime ban from the Idaho Falls Marathon and future IFM events

7.2 REPORTING A VIOLATION

  • An Incident Report of a suspected rule violation may be reported to the IFM up to seven (7) days after the race using an online form at www.idahofallsmarathon.com.

  • All incident reports submitted to the IFM of a potential rule violation will be reviewed and investigated for corroborating evidence.

  • Protests may be submitted to the Race Referee or IPC Technical Delegate on race day during a designated time period in accordance with the Protest and Appeals process.

    • Protests must be submitted in writing.

    • All protests will be reviewed by the Race Referee or IPC Technical Delegate.

    • The athlete or athlete’s representative may appeal the ruling of the Race Referee or IPC Technical Delegate.

    • Appeals will be reviewed by the Jury of Appeals.

    • The ruling of the Jury of Appeals is final.

 

8.1 APPENDIX A: IDAHO FALLS MARATHON PARTICIPANT AGREEMENT

  • The Idaho Falls Marathon is a serious athletic endeavor. Official timing and scoring is by net time and ceases seven hours after the final marathon participant crosses the start line, after which a course sweeper will assist any runners still on the course back to the start/finish area. By submitting this entry form, you are agreeing to comply with the following terms and conditions, and you certify the information you are providing is complete and correct.

  • You understand and acknowledge that:

    • The cities and towns control access to the roadway, and that traffic control and other race support along the course ceases at various times beginning shortly after the start and ending approximately seven hours from the time the last official participant crosses the start line.
